Sunday Funday:
Friday night was spent in Silverlake (a neighborhood in LA) at the Red Lion Tavern, a German/Bavarian bar in the heart of the hipster district. My (now) motley crue of friends was in the middle of an eclectic bar serving German beer only, playing obscure indie rock and filled with LA’s finest characters and hipsters.
It was good to see some people and to spend some time with the people I really grew up with in college. I hadn’t actually seen some of them for two months since school kicked up again this Fall and I got wrapped up in all the class and projects and midterms. Some of them didn’t even know I cut my hair.
I spent the night at my girlfriend’s house—what a divine little apartment in Hancock Park! The sublte architectural details and the stunning vintage, classical furnitures and decor her and her roommates had were just wonderful. I aspire to be everything feminine, classic, etc. etc. Which may explain my tattoo, recent love of Paris, and obsession with ruffles and lingerie. Now to decorate as such.
So off we went and woke up to do what we always wish to, grab a cup of coffee in a high brow portion of LA: Larchmont. Granted, I actually really like Larchmont, it still is so Los Angeles it’s almost comical. Think East Coast quiet suburban main street with boutiques, coffee shops, cafes and more. Rich housewives and the working spending their weekend pushing their well dressed toddlers or well rested dogs all up and down the lane. We had coffees (I had hibiscus tea) and the most amazing little sandwiches from a wine and cheese store that sometimes sold sandwiches. I had black forest ham and Swiss ementhaler on squishy ciabatta bread with black olive tapenade, greens and balsamic vinegar. I just about died and gone to heaven. A big fan of tapenade, I had never had it on a sandwich and now have a new obsession. Speaking of new obsessions, I was taken to LF boutique for the first time and nearly spent every penny I had (I didn’t). So if you want to get me a present, there is a link for you as well.
Then back to Orange County we went.
Nothing like some Takashi Murakami to brighten your day. I saw one of his installations (in a greater exhibit at MOCA in Los Angeles several years ago) and it was divine, and as happy and fun as the rest of his repertoire. If you ever get the chance to buy his books, or see some of stuff in the flesh — you only have my greatest encouragement.
